Resumé and Cover Letter Tips

A well-prepared resumé will improve your chances of consideration and might just help you land an interview.

• The information listed on your resumé should be current and clearly describe your strengths, employment history, education, and areas of expertise.
• Provide facts—avoid exaggeration.
• Be specific—avoid providing a list of skills and/or technologies. Your resumé should demonstrate how you acquired or learned these skills and how you apply them in the workplace.

It is extremely helpful when you include a cover letter with your resumé. It gives you the opportunity to tell us additional information about your experiences and strengths that might not be apparent on your resumé.

• Provide a description of the type of position you are looking for and how you are qualified. We want to match your knowledge, skills, abilities, and interests with current openings as well as future opportunities.
• Be sure to include current contact information.
• It is not necessary to address your cover letter to a specific Esri employee. "Dear Hiring Manager" is commonly used.
• Be sure your e-mail address and voicemail messages are of a professional nature.
• If you met us at a career fair, mention which one in your cover letter.

Review your resumé and cover letter for typos and grammatical errors. It's a good idea to have other people review them as well.
