Meet George
Degree/Major: Master's in Geography
What was your role? I was trained in the various tasks and workflows our team uses in producing and managing Community Maps data. I created elevation contours and vegetation layers for Morocco, digitized my campus map, and got some exposure to creating ArcGIS Online web apps.
Coolest thing about working at Esri? It's fascinating to hear people talk about the direction that GIS and technology are going (software as a service!).
Most important thing you learned during your internship? That there is a paradigm shift currently happening in the GIS world, in that services will be delivered increasingly via the web and mobile networks using cloud-based resources, expanding the reach of GIS significantly
Where is the last place you traveled to? As a reward to myself for finishing my master's thesis, I went to Honolulu for a few days—great snorkeling, interesting history.
Last song you downloaded? "Boyfriend" by Justin Bieber (not joking)
Favorite way to spend a Saturday afternoon? Watching Chinese serial dramas online and learning some new vocabulary
Can: Whistle—my fellow interns called me the "songbird of the century" and slapped me (gently) upside the head periodically.
Can't (but wish you could): Win a gold medal in gymnastics
