New student pricing for ArcView software

A special one-year license of ArcView is now available to full-time and part-time students. Available for either ArcView 8.3 or ArcView 3.3, this affordable new license is designed for students who need access to GIS software to complete course assignments or for research projects. The ArcView 8.3 version also includes the ArcGIS Spatial Analyst, ArcGIS 3D Analyst, and ArcGIS Geostatistical Analyst extensions. Students in the United States can order the new products by calling the ESRI Telebusiness Department at 800-447-9778. If you are outside the U.S. and would like to order software, please contact your local ESRI distributor.

New "MapImager" ArcGIS extension from Telemorphic

MapImager adds simple, easy-to-use image analysis and visualization tools to ArcGIS. MapImager allows you to quickly perform interactive image or map comparisons within the ArcMap environment. With one button you can toggle between blend, swipe, change bands, and custom morphing controls. These tools also appear in the David Rumsey Map Collection's GIS Browser, which is based on Telemorphic's Maplicity product. MapImager adds the ability to create, save and/or download customized images from various sources, and integrate these images directly within your ArcMap document. Featured Site: Arizona Electronic Atlas at University of Arizona

Looking for information about Arizona? Need to know the percent of Hispanics in Pima County, or where in the state the unemployment rate is lowest, or where toxic waste sites are located? Now you can go to one web site and create a map that shows this information - and much more! The Arizona Electronic Atlas is a dynamic web-based atlas that allows users to create, manipulate and download accurate and current maps and data through an easy-to-use interface. The University of Arizona Library received an IMLS grant to create the Atlas, which is a collaboration between the UA Library, Arizona Department of Library, Archives, and Public Records, the Arizona State Cartographer's Office, Arizona Geographic Information Council, and Arizona State University.

New Book: Making Community Connections

This book is designed to bring teams of teachers and their students together with community members to study a problem, a resource, a condition-any matter of interest and importance to the community. The materials in Making Community Connections have been constructed to provide a solid foundation and flexible framework for original projects created and developed by students, their teachers, and their communities, allowing explorations and investigations of places and problems of interest and concern to them. Project tasks include gathering and examining existing information, discovering new facts through field investigation, and mapping the resource using GIS/GPS tools. The book also includes a dozen case studies drawn from the Orton Family Foundation's Community Mapping Program, illustrating how the principles and strategies laid out in the book have been successfully applied in a series of real-world projects.
