Methodology
How Was This Database Built?
MarketBank data is compiled by estimating market penetration and potential for each savings, investing, lending, and insurance product. These estimates are based on consumer behavior as revealed in the Federal Reserve Bank's Survey of Consumer Finances, a statistically representative, comprehensive survey of U.S. households based on in-home interviews conducted tri-annually.
The top 3 percent, or "wealthy," households are over-sampled because of their under-representation in a random sample. Results are then projected to market areas based on the demographic and socioeconomic characteristics of households residing in the areas, as defined by ESRI.
