ESRI Data & Maps 2007 Update Now Available

ArcGIS users can now request a Data & Maps 2007 update. This update is delivered on two DVDs and includes updates to more than 80 datasets and all of the U.S. Tele Atlas and European basemap data, as well as minor corrections and enhancements. In addition, this update also includes StreetMap Pro, which provides 2003 Tele Atlas streets for North America with complete routing and geocoding capabilities.

ESRI Data & Maps is a set of annual map data that is included at no additional cost with ArcGIS software and preconfigured to work with ArcGIS products.

ESRI Data & Maps 2006 is delivered on five DVDs and contains many types of map data at many scales of geography. Composed of more than 24 GB of data, including over 190 presymbolized data layers, it follows the FGDC standard and contains ISO 19115-compliant metadata. The entire dataset can be read directly from the DVDs.

Interactive map documents (MXDs) for basemaps and thematic maps are ready for use including features such as scale-dependent rendering and labeling and the ability to turn layers on and off. All vector data is provided in ESRI's compressed, direct-read, high-performance Spatial Data Compression (SDC) format. Most raster data that is included is provided in JPEG 2000 format.

ESRI Data & Maps 2006 includes

• Basemap and thematic MXDs for Canada, Europe, Mexico, the United States, and the World
• Commercial data from Tele Atlas, AND Mapping, DMTI Spatial, WorldSat, EarthSat, EuroGeographics, Michael Bauer Research, World Wildlife Fund, SIGSA, and ESRI
• 90-meter Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) dataset
• All levels of U.S. Census geography and ZIP Codes
• TIGER 2000-based StreetMap USA data

Each dataset includes a metadata (.xml) file as well as an ArcGIS layer (.lyr) file displaying symbols and classification for the dataset when viewed within ArcGIS. Each SDC file also includes a projection (.prj) file that stores the coordinate system information that is by ArcGIS. Map document (.mxd) and group layer (.lyr) files are included for all geographic areas to provide symbolized maps of the dataset. Published map (.pmf) files that can be viewed with ArcReader are also included for all geographic areas.

Additionally, each DVD contains the ESRI Data & Maps HTML-based Help system that contains information about the data as well as redistribution rights and metadata documentation. The metadata provides general and technical characteristics of the dataset as well as unique identification, description, data quality, spatial data organization, condition, and more.
