ESRI Data—Major Shopping Centers from the Directory of Major Malls (DMM) database contains shop statistics for major U.S. shopping centers with an approximate gross leasable area (GLA) of 225,000 square feet or more. The data provides information about more than 4,200 centers, more than 195,000 individual store locations, and approximately 19,000 key contacts.

How was this database built?

The data is constantly updated and expanded from answers to a semiannual questionnaire and telemarketing and fax campaigns sent to center owners, developers, and authorized agents. The compiled data is verified and/or expanded by each center's owners/developers. Planned projects or projects under construction are reconfirmed semiannually as "active projects."

You can use Major Shopping Centers data to

  • Identify and profile shopping centers within a trade area.
  • Research competitive shopping centers.
  • Locate potential retail sites.
  • Assess new opportunities.
  • Determine the products and services to offer.
