Esri to Receive The Maritime Alliance Educational Outreach Award

Redlands, California—The Maritime Alliance will honor Esri with its Educational Outreach Award during the Blue Tech & Blue Economy Summit on November 7, 2013, in San Diego, California. The Maritime Alliance fosters maritime business and technology innovation through collaboration in the United States and around the world. Esri is the world leader in GIS.

"Esri has been a key supporter of The Maritime Alliance over the past several years," said Bill Riedy, executive director of The Maritime Alliance. "That relationship reached new heights in 2013. We prominently share GIS as an important, valuable tool to prepare the Blue Tech leaders of tomorrow with exciting educational opportunities today."

"We are honored to be receiving the Educational Outreach Award," said Drew Stephens, Esri ocean and coastal environments manager. "The Maritime Alliance’s work to connect students and professionals is commendable. We are encouraged by young ocean explorers using GIS to discover sustainable solutions for the ocean."

To ensure the upcoming work force is well trained to manage oceans resources sustainably and safely, The Maritime Alliance supports education in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through its OceanSTEM program. It has been collaborating with Esri’s education and ocean teams to create an OceanSTEM curriculum about sustainable seafood and showcase the project at cosponsored events.

Esri has long supported the use of GIS in classrooms and research labs around the world. Esri actively helps local, regional, and global organizations create GIS education programs. Students and faculty alike use GIS to build knowledge and solve problems in more than 100 different fields.
