Mobile/Field-Based ArcGIS
Jithen Singh, Scott Bradley, Eagle Technology and Jo Fraley, Esri

Mobile GIS has really come to the fore in recent years with an abundance of GIS-capable mobile devices from the smartphone to the ruggedised laptop. Each of these devices has its own areas of application and accompanying ArcGIS options. This session will look at the mobility options for ArcGIS users, cover some of the decision trees that will determine platform and software selection, and provide hands-on experience using ArcGIS applications on a range of devices in the field.

Developing ArcGIS Web Applications
Dave Timmins and Jose Sousa, Eagle Technology

This workshop is aimed at those with some knowledge of ArcGIS technology but who wish to learn more about the options for creating web-based solutions on top of ArcGIS for Server. Areas covered will be the various APIs including Flex, Silverlight, JavaScript, and ArcGIS Online. It will look at how to leverage the APIs to create common functionality and compare the benefits of using each API. At the end of the session, developers will have a better understanding of the options available for creating web applications so that they can apply this to their everyday work.

Architecting ArcGIS Solutions for the Enterprise
Dave Wrazien, Esri

This workshop will discuss methodologies, resources and tools for architecting ArcGIS solutions into an organizational enterprise. Common patterns of GIS business behavior will be discussed as a framework for defining and organizing GIS solutions. These business patterns give way to architecture design patterns and technology approaches which provide the foundation of the presented ArcGIS Reference Architecture. Additionally, topics of contemporary computing models/approaches (e.g. SOA, WOA, CoDA and Cloud), application design approaches, and other relevant enterprise trends will be discussed. Throughout this workshop, real world examples and case studies will be presented with attendees encouraged to openly participate and share experiences.

Presenter: Dave Wrazien, Solution Architect, Esri Inc.

Esri Technical Certification Program – What It Means for You and Your Organisation
Claire Thurlow, Eagle Technology

Certification is a measure of an individual's skill with ArcGIS and allows recognition in his or her field of technical focus—desktop, server, or system. This session will cover the programme, including how it can be used by organisations to develop their GIS staff, as well as help with recruitment practices, and will review the knowledge required to pass the ArcGIS Desktop Associate Exam.
This is a full day workshop.

Performance Management and Scalability for ArcGIS for Server
Trevor Hart and Fraser Hand, Eagle Technology

Ensuring that you are getting the best performance from a technology is a key question for system owners. This workshop will take a systematic approach to looking at areas that may be causing performance or scalability issues with ArcGIS for Server and will provide attendees with some useful tools to examine their own systems. This session is aimed at those responsible for managing ArcGIS for Server and will cover aspects from the RDBMS to the MXD.

Geodesign – Using ArcGIS to Improve the Design Process
Zorko Sostaric, Eagle Technology

This session will take attendees through the CityEngine modelling and design software and how it can be used to geoenable design workflows within an organisation. CityEngine is the technology of choice for 3D city modelling in urban planning, architecture, defence, simulation, and game and film production. Its application for geodesign, the concept of geoenabling design workflows, can provide land-use planners, engineers, transportation planners, and others, with these capabilities:

  • Visualise cities in their future state.
  • Examine the impact of district plans or other changes.
  • Visualise proposed legislation and its impacts in 3D.
  • Carry out on-the-fly suitability analysis.
  • Leverage geographic information within designs.
  • Visualise rules and legislation in 3D.

The session will provide an overview of the geodesign process as well as how CityEngine and ArcGIS for Desktop can be used to generate rule-based 3D content and then analyse and evaluate it.

Developing ArcGIS Applications for Mobile Platforms
Dave Timmins and Jose Sousa, Eagle Technology

This workshop is for developers who wish to gain more knowledge of ArcGIS technologies and ArcGIS development options for creating and deploying solutions built on the ArcGIS 10.1 runtime technology across multiple platforms. It will look at building a sample application across the various platforms and examine the pros and cons of each.
