How to Develop a Situational Awareness Web Application
The utility industry continues to look at ways to improve the aggregation and dissemination of information to streamline business processes and decision making. One way to achieve this goal is to develop a situational awareness web application that integrates enterprise systems (GIS, OMS, WMS, SCADA, vehicle tracking) and event information (weather, traffic, flooding) into a common operating picture. This will enable utilities to have a holistic view of their system and a greater insight into how to best react to events as they change throughout the day.
This workshop will outline the components of a situational awareness application, the configuration process, and how to package it up in a rich internet application.
Improving the Efficiency of the Design and As-Building Workflows
Improving the efficiency of time consuming processes such as creating a project Design or updating the As-Built representation of the Utility system (As-Builting) is a proven effort for reducing operational costs. With the release of ArcGIS 9.3, ESRI has provided additional functionality with its JTX (Job Tracking) extension that provides tools to automate time consuming edit environment configuration settings, such as defining the snapping, edit target, edit task, version management, and selectable layers.
The purpose of this presentation will be to demonstrate how a utility can incorporate the JTX tools into their Data Maintenance workflows to improve operational efficiencies.
