Bringing Your Geographic Information to Life
In this session, we will describe and demonstrate a series of simple approaches that will help you turn your data into useful information and bring it to life on the Web, making it actionable, consumable, and understandable.
For years in the GIS community, we have focused on creating and managing authoritative geographic data for our areas of interest. As a result, we think that the GIS community is sitting on a valuable body of knowledge. We must begin to think about how we present our information beyond our GIS communities. See how to build effective Web GIS deployments and publish your information in useful ways for a range of audiences.
- Getting beyond the database and thinking about presentation
- How maps convey information
- How to build compelling maps using ArcGIS templates
- How to identify your audience and use their experience in putting your information to work
- Useful map patterns for Web delivery
- Using information pop-ups and reporting
- Other practical techniques to leverage your information
Practical methods will be demonstrated through a series of application
examples using real GIS scenarios. The result: You can begin to think
about how to present your information as an extension of the work you
have done to build and
maintain it.
