Advanced Water Purification Tour
Join Us!
This tour will start at Padre Dam’s award winning Water Recycling Facility (WRF). The WRF was upgraded in 1997 to treat 2 million gallons per day (MGD) using the Bardenpho system, which combines large amounts of air with microscopic organisms to remove high levels of suspended solids, organic material, nitrogen and phosphorous without the use of chemicals. After the WRF we will continue to Padre Dam’s Advanced Water Purification Facility. The Advanced Water Purification Program creates a new, local, sustainable and drought proof drinking water supply using state-of-the-art technology to purify East County’s recycled water. This water recycling opportunity will diversify East County’s water supply and reduce dependence on imported water. If the program moves forward, it will meet approximately 25-30 percent of East County’s current drinking water demands. Join this tour to learn how technology is being used to recycle and purify water.
