Sixth Annual ESRI Cave and Karst SIG Wrap-Up
The 6th Annual ESRI Cave and Karst Special Interest Group
Meeting was held in July,2003, during the The twenty-third annual ESRI
International User Conference in San Diego, CA. Featured this year were
presentations by Aaron Addison on the use of ArcPad for in-cave data
collection and management in Cueva del Tecolete, Mexico, and the use of
GIS for mapping in Mammoth Cave National Park, and a presentation by
Rhonda Pfaff on using the ArcGIS 9 Model Builder and geoprocessing tools
for improving groundwater quality in the Mammoth Cave watershed.
NSS GIS Symposium Wrap-up
The
National Speleological Society (NSS) Convention, held in Porterville, CA,
in August, 2003, a GIS Symposium which included 7 papers and one poster
presentation:

NSS Cave and Karst Conservation Special Issue
The National Spelelogical Society will publish a special cave
and karst conservation issue, with a section featuring the use of GIS.
Papers are still being solicited, the deadline for submissions is January
20th. Submissions should be short (100 to 1500 words) and can include
graphics or photos. Refer to the NSS Style Guide
for submission guidelines. Submit articles, updates, protection concerns,
conservation opportunities, and kudos for individuals or groups to the NSS
Conservation Co-Chairs, Jim Werker & Val Hildreth-Werker, at werks@zianet.com.
Hydro Data Model Information Available Online
ESRI has developed models for Water Resources and has
focused on surface water with input from key state, national, and
international contributors. The ArcGIS Hydro model is available for review

ArcGIS 9 Overview
ArcGIS 9 is
the next major release of the ArcGIS system. ArcGIS 9 will extend the
current platform with major new capabilities in the areas of
geoprocessing, 3D visualization, and developer tools. Two new products,
ArcGIS Engine and ArcGIS Server, will also be launched. For an overview of

Getting To Know ArcObjects
Now Available from ESRI Press
Getting to Know ArcObjects is
designed to teach programmers of all skill levels, including absolute
beginners, how to work with ArcObjects using Microsoft Visual Basic for
Applications (VBA). Getting to Know ArcObjects teaches the basics
of VBA programming, then progresses quickly to ArcObjects. Readers learn
what ArcObjects are, use object model diagrams to find out what individual
objects do, and program objects to execute specific GIS tasks.
