How Is GIS Being Used?

Read climate presentations from the 2009 ESRI International User Conference.

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) international treaty to reduce global warming by setting limits on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is ratified in the Kyoto Protocol. A new global agreement is scheduled to be discussed at the 15th Conference of the Parties, (COP 15) Copenhagen, December 7–18, 2009.

ESRI will attend the United Nations climate change conference to discuss scientific methodologies, data-sharing capabilities, workflow implementations, and international adoption and management aspects. They will demonstrate how GIS software can be used in developing the Green Investment Scheme (GIS).

How can nations use GIS software for green investment?
  • Aid development of environmental policy
  • Monitor C02 emission inventory and reduction
  • Manage emission trading
  • Administer environmental investment programs
  • Analyze data for forest conservation project planning
  • Facilitate joint implementation projects between countries
