Call for Papers

Survey & Engineering GIS Papers
ESRI wants to recognize GIS work in the surveying and engineering GIS community at the Survey & Engineering GIS Summit. We are welcoming abstracts for presentations that discuss best practices, innovative GIS applications, and lessons learned by your department or organization. E-mail dana_barnes@esri.com by March 14, 2008, if you are interested in submitting an abstract.

Health GIS Papers
Health professionals who use GIS understand the inherent value of a geographic framework for managing and communicating knowledge, supporting critical business applications, and furthering education and research programs. ESRI software users are invited to share their work in paper presentations at the 2008 ESRI Health GIS Conference in Washington, D.C. By telling your GIS story, you will be able to share relevant insights with other professionals from public health, hospitals and health systems, managed care, social services, and academic health. The deadline to submit an abstract is April 18, 2008.

    Managing the Fireground Using Technology
    Tuesday, April 8, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

    Chief Don Oliver, Wilson (NC) Fire/Rescue Services; Division Chief (Ret.) Michael St. John, Livermore-Pleasanton (CA) Fire Department; and Captain Yo Gikas, Los Angeles (CA) City Fire Department

    This workshop will address methods and tools for improving effectiveness in providing the safest responses, providing the best tools for incident management, and improving fireground accountability. It will look at technology currently available to assist firefighters in safety, strategic planning, and tactical operations; how response, command and control, planning, accountability, and management can be dramatically enhanced; and the tools and technology available to monitor buildings, track firefighters, and create and maintain real-time situational awareness.

ArcGIS Survey Analyst: Maintaining Land Records Using the Cadastral Editor

This instructor-led Virtual Classroom course is designed for experienced ArcGIS users who want to create, update, and manage accurate and seamless cadastral networks from survey plans and electronic subdivision data. It is also useful for GIS users who need to work with cadastral datasets and survey information. Land record and survey professionals will find the course of particular benefit.

This three-day class is held live and is interactive over the Web for three hours each day, making it easy and cost-effective for attendees to participate in the class from their desks. The next class begins March 4. Register for this course.

Call for Maps – Mapping Forestry
The ESRI natural resources team and ESRI Press are collaborating on an exciting new book project, Mapping Forestry. The book will feature GIS solutions for forest industry professionals. We are asking ESRI users in the forest industry for content submissions that illustrate any of the following:

Growth modeling
Remote sensing
Terrain modeling
Resource analysis
Operational mapping
Compliance reporting
Business strategy
Transportation analysis
Mobile solutions
Data collection
Fire management
Forestry planning

Selections will be based on the visual composition of the map submitted, completeness of descriptive text, and narrative of how the map was created. Submissions will be accepted until March 14, 2008. If you are interested in contributing, contact forestry_book@esri.com for details.
