GIS for Health and Human Services

HealthyGIS Submission Guidelines

Article Topics

Topics may include announcements of new GIS solutions and technology, explanations of GIS-related developments and trends, and discussions of concerns and successes experienced by those employing GIS in the health and human services areas.

Articles should take the users' view of how they identified a challenge in their work, developed and implemented a GIS technology solution to address that challenge, and then identified the benefits and lessons learned from the results. The article should mention sources of assistance, if any, (e.g., GIS consultants) and include quotes from one or two people who can comment on benefits, results, lessons learned, etc. Of course, a necessary component is good description of specific ESRI software or extensions used in coordination with other types of software and hardware. Readers are also interested in descriptions of how specific ESRI software features and tools help improve accuracy, efficiency, processes, etc.

Article Guidelines

  • All articles must be connected to a GIS theme that is potentially useful to other readers and must have at least one high resolution graphic, diagram, or screenshot.
  • ESRI software must be named in the article.
  • Submit articles in Word document format only with graphics in a separate file in .tiff or .bmp format.
  • Articles must not exceed 800 words.
  • The newsletter's editors will edit all articles and make changes for readability and ESRI style.
  • Writing assistance and articles developed through an interview with an ESRI editor are offered to those requesting support.
  • Contributors must complete the ESRI Submission and Copyright Policy form.
