Lewistown, Illinois
Lewistown is the county seat of Fulton County and is famous for having been the childhood home of Edgar Lee Masters, author of Spoon River Anthology. Lewistown's Oak Hill Cemetery was a major inspiration for Masters' famous literary work. Lewistown achieved several "firsts" in the State of Illinois including the first American Legion Post, the first Volunteer Fire Protection District and Central Illinois's first newspaper, the Fulton Democrat.  Lewistown has a rich community history that includes early native American residents, the Underground railroad, and a WWII training and detention camp.
