The East Bay Bike Path

by Jonathan Adler

Until 1938, when it was destroyed by a hurricane, a rail line connected Providence to Bristol, Rhode Island. Today that rail line has been converted to a 14 mile-long bike path that runs the length of the East Bay from East Providence to Bristol. Although planners designed the path for bicycles, you are just as likely to encounter walkers, runners, and roller-bladers on the path today. The bike path is a safe place to enjoy all these activities along with beautiful views of  the Providence skyline,  Narragansett Bay, and shoreline wildlife.
