2009 ESRI UC Review

Marine and Coastal GIS Special Interest Group Meeting
This year was the 9th meeting of the Marine and Coastal GIS Special Interest Group The meeting was well attended with about 40 participants. We had very interesting presentations from the following speakers:

If you are interested in presenting your work at next year’s meeting, please contact Katsura Iizuka.

Technical Briefing Sessions
Based on previous discussions about an ArcMarine data model training opportunity at the UC, we had our first Technical Briefing session titled, ArcMarine–Managing and Analyzing Ocean and Coastal Data in ArcGIS [PDF], presented by Dawn Wright, Oregon State University, and Katsura Iizuka, ESRI. We also had a session on Managing and Modeling Bathymetry data in ArcGIS presented by Rafael Ponce and Timothy Kearns, ESRI.

If there is enough interest in a one-day or half-a-day course to learn how to use and implement ArcMarine (by going through the ArcMarine Tutorial together with your own datasets), we might be able to host an ArcMarine pre-conference seminar before or during the 2010 UC. If you are interested, please contact Katsura Iizuka.

Save the Date
The 2010 ESRI International User Conference will be July 10-12, in San Diego, California. Once again there will be informative sessions, intriguing speakers, and ample networking opportunities. The Call for Presentations is underway. Abstracts are due October 16, 2009.
