USGS Glacier Bay Field Station

Coastal zone

The GIS team of the USGS Glacier Bay Field Station has created three oceanography-related GIS extensions that can be integrated with ArcView GIS.

Animal Movement

The Animal Movement extension is designed for analysis of animal movement data collected from radio tags, sonic tags, Argos satellite tags, or observational data. The extension offers parametric and nonparametric home range analyses, random walk models, habitat analyses, point and circular statistics, tests of complete spatial randomness, tests for autocorrelation and sample size, point and line manipulation tools, and animation tools.

Oceanographic Analyst

The Oceanographic Analyst extension allows three- and four-dimensional analysis and display of volumetric and time-series oceanographic data. It permits integration of full-cast oceanographic data into a GIS system. Its functions can also be used for calculating photic depth, integrating chlorophyll-a, processing weather data, exporting and importing aggregation, and summarizing.

Population Viability Analyst

The Population Viability Analyst (PVA) extension is designed to examine the influences of multiple types of variation such as the probability of a population's extinction in the face of variation. It allows the user to create life tables based on overall population parameters or to utilize a fully populated life table to conduct multiple population simulations
