GIS for Pipeline

Join the ESRI Pipeline Interest Group (PIG)

Over the past 10 years, pipeline GIS has grown from a luxury to a required operational system. While many pipeline operators are using ESRI solutions, there are limited opportunities for communicating with industry peers. With this in mind, ESRI established the Pipeline Interest Group (PIG) to address the needs of the industry and to serve the interests of ESRI's clients as a self-administered, self-financed special interest group with events throughout the year. One of the main goals of PIG is to influence ESRI's development efforts.

PIG is establishing several workgroups listed in the Pipeline Online Forum. If you feel a new one is needed, contact Robert Brook.

APDM

Within PIG is the ArcGIS Pipeline Data Model (APDM) association, which develops and manages the APDM geodatabase model. Developed by industry participants, APDM is an ESRI geodatabase designed for storing information pertaining to features found in gathering and transmission pipelines, particularly gas and liquid systems. The APDM association is run by two committees: the APDM Steering Committee and the APDM Technical Committee. The model is distributed freely. More information about APDM can be found at www.apdm.net.
