GIS for Surveying

Research/Reconnaissance

Research

Diagrapm of New Project Work flow

With GIS, you can easily research land records, parcel data, legal documents, and additional data needed from courthouses and online data warehouses to begin a new project.

Advanced GIS technologies such as Survey Analyst provide interfaces and integration of survey data. Because survey accurate measurements establish the legal definition of a parcel, this capability is essential in the accuracy of land records and assessment data. Even as new, more accurate data is collected, GIS has the capability to adjust existing data to conform to new survey measurements while preserving the spatial integrity of the land records geodatabase.

Reconnaissance

Brass tops, witness trees, rocks, and iron rods are types of monuments called by surveyors to be re-used as control points in future surveys. You will find over 500 industry-standard three-dimensional symbols included with ArcGIS 3D Analyst. These symbols can be used to represent GIS features, such as trees or fire hydrants for point features, grass or water for polygon features, and tubes or texture lines for line features. ArcGIS 3D Analyst supports specialized three-dimensional models, including MultiGen OpenFlight, 3D Studio MAX and SketchUp formats, to allow for a more realistic representation of three-dimensional features.

In addition, any TrueType symbol can be used as a base for a symbol and can be easily extruded to represent a three-dimensional object. This gives you access to the thousands of symbols included with ArcGIS as well as many more available commercially.
