Point of Beginning's 2007 Survey & Engineering GIS Summit Summary
Used with permission from POB and www.POBonline.com. A special report in the August 2007 edition of Point of Beginning (POB) takes readers through the 2007 ESRI SEG Summit. The article details the summit's integration of surveying and engineering professionals. A rundown of key points from professor Stig Enemark's keynote address and accounts of other notable activities during the event make POB's SEG Summit summary an interesting read.

Road Project Down Under Linked by GIS
The largest road project in Australia's history, EastLink, is currently under way, and GIS is playing a key role in planning, organization, and workflow processes. In a joint venture, two agencies are using GIS to host the project's growing database and as a platform to distribute information, manage data, and hand over work as the project moves through each phase. After some computer-aided design (CAD) data translation in the early stages of the project, EastLink staff implemented GIS to analyze the requirements of the environment, community, property, safety, schedules, and tunnel construction.

Support GIS Awareness
November 14, 2007, is GIS Day around the world. GIS Day provides a forum for GIS users to demonstrate real-world applications that are making a difference. Participants in more than 80 countries will hold local events such as corporate open houses, hands-on workshops, community expos, school assemblies, and more. GIS Day is the perfect opportunity for you to showcase your work, too! Participation is easy and can be as simple as visiting a local school, hosting an open house, or holding a user meeting.

Cadastral Editor Improves Data Accuracy in Survey Analyst
A new workflow and a new dataset make ArcGIS Survey Analyst 9.2 the most comprehensive release yet. Cadastral Editor gives users the ability to add new parcels from subdivision plats, split parcels, add control points, and improve the spatial positions of parcels without changing the original survey record data stored in the database. Cadastral Fabric - a layer of parcels representing multiple land record sources that are seamlessly connected and integrated - is a new type of dataset for storing cadastral survey records.

ArcGIS for AutoCAD Offers No - Cost CAD Interoperability
ArcGIS for AutoCAD is a complimentary download that provides access to dynamic georeferenced ArcGIS Server map services and allows CAD users to visualize and query GIS data without conversion in AutoCAD 2007. As a CAD user, you can work directly with ArcGIS map services to add full GIS context to your AutoCAD session.

Publish Maps at No Cost with ArcGIS Explorer
ArcGIS Explorer is a lightweight desktop client for ArcGIS Server, providing a way for you to publish ArcGIS Server capabilities within your organization or to anyone on the Web. Using ArcGIS Explorer, you can connect to content published by ESRI and others and blend it with your own ArcGIS services or local data. You can create your own content or tasks for ArcGIS Explorer by authoring globes and tasks using ArcGIS Desktop and publishing these to ArcGIS Explorer via ArcGIS Server.
