OSP InSight for ESRI 1.0

Advance Fiber Optics, Inc. (AFO), maker of network management software OSP InSight®, has developed a version of its fiber management system for applications using the ESRI GIS platform. Extensively deployed in the CATV and telecommunications markets, OSP InSight Pro® for ESRI 1.0 , a Windows®-based system, now enables ESRI users to enhance the functionality and maintainability of their networks by providing a detailed system of mapping and reporting down to individual fibers within rings and backbone.

Find Fault LocationThe introduction of an ESRI-compatible version of OSP InSight allows a new group of users to benefit from the advanced CAD-based drawing tools, sophisticated reporting system and the easy-to-use "point-and-click" architecture that this management system offers. OSP InSight provides a very affordable means to gain the rewards of the highly-technical graphical tools and mapping options offered by this system. ESRI software users who have upgraded to ArcEditor 8.1 can especially benefit from the cost savings and advanced organizational features.

OSP Insight improves the reporting capabilities in large systems, offering a variety of data for both non-engineers and planners. More specifically, OSP InSight enables administrators to do the following:

  • Modeling entire networks including structure, hardware and materials
  • Integrating map objects and database information for quick retrieval
  • Identifying, labeling and detailing every cable and individual fiber (fiber, copper and coax)
  • Tracking fiber connectivity throughout the network and quickly locating a fault
  • Viewing detailed splice information including splice trays and splice schematics
  • Tracking all inside plant information
  • Producing end-to-end analysis reports for all fiber routes
  • Mapping and displaying superduct, duct and innerduct routes and availability
  • Identifying lit, dark and leased fibers

Splice InformationTo complement its network management system, AFO provides data conversion services for its customers. With more than 45,000 cable miles of network data converted, AFO's data conversion team is well equipped to process and convert various forms of information into the OSP InSight system including CAD, spreadsheets and hand drawings.

AFO also offers complete field verification services for auditing and documenting existing networks to help with upgrading, maintaining and managing networks. Technicians walk network routes to physically inspect, document and photograph all network assets. During this process, they document cable types (fiber, copper, coax) and lengths, cable routes, usage, splice enclosure locations and types, access point locations and distribution panels.
