GIS for Telecommunications
  Safe Software logo

Safe Software Inc. specializes in spatial extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) technologies. Founded in 1993, the company has since become the industry leader in spatial data interoperability. Safe Software's focus is on providing software solutions that deliver seamless data translation (conversion), transformation, and integration for more than 200 formats. One of its goals as a company is to ensure that its solutions meet customers' needs and provide the greatest value to the widest possible set of users.

Safe Software's solutions improve the return on investment (ROI) on various mission-critical systems containing georeferenced data (e.g., fiber, networks, wireless coverage areas) through the provision of advanced rule-based data translation solutions. By allowing disparate systems to seamlessly interoperate, legacy investments can maintain value even when newer technologies are introduced.

Clients from a wide range of organizations, including those from wireless and telecommunication industries, use Safe Software's stand-alone, Web-based, embeddable software products worldwide. Read customer case studies at www.safe.com/solutions/casestudies.php.

Multi-FME Workbench

Safe Software's core technology, the Feature Manipulation Engine (FME), powers the FME family of spatial ETL tools to help GIS users solve spatial data challenges while effectively saving organizations time and money. To learn more about FME, visit www.safe.com/. To download a free evaluation copy of FME, visit www.safe.com/tryit.

Safe Software and ESRI have partnered to develop the ArcGIS Data Interoperability extension. ArcGIS Data Interoperability integrates seamless data access functionality directly into ArcCatalog, ArcMap, ArcGlobe, ArcToolbox, and the ModelBuilder geoprocessing environment and provides data access, data transformation, and export capabilities within ArcGIS to more than 95 FME-supported formats. Designed specifically for ESRI ArcGIS Data Interoperability users, FME for ArcGIS enables direct access to additional FME-supported formats and functionality from within ArcGIS that are not included with ArcGIS Data Interoperability. For more information about the ESRI and Safe Software Interoperability initiative, visit www.safe.com/esri/interop.

Some telecommunication organizations have used the technology to

  • Migrate/Join disparate and legacy CAD systems to GIS including the restructuring of CAD data to conform to GIS standards.
  • Extend lifetimes of legacy systems through interoperability including the migration of legacy GIS to new GIS (e.g., Cox FRAMME to Smallworld).
  • Replicate and share data across disparate GIS.
  • Exchange data between CAD-based systems and GIS systems.
(Support exists for more than 200 formats including PLANET; Aircom ENTERPRISE; and those by ESRI, Smallworld, Intergraph, and MapInfo. For a complete list of FME-supported formats, visit www.safe.com/formats.)
  • Perform quality assurance tests on spatial data for wireless and telecom networks to enforce data standards between systems.
  • Perform spatial data ETL processes to support various wireless client support applications.
  • Combine data from multiple sources into a single translation run.
