ESRI offers a variety of licensing options to meet the needs of students, faculty, and educational institutions of all sizes. These licenses are available for academic, research, or administrative use by individuals, labs, departments, or entire campuses. Commercial use is prohibited for all academic licenses.
If you are outside the U.S., contact the nearest ESRI distributor.
Educational Edition (Student/Faculty) and Individual License purchases require academic verification. You can submit your verification (current course schedule or proof of employment from an administrator on your organization's letterhead) via fax or e-mail. Include your contact information so that a Sales Representative may contact you regarding eligibility. For information about Campuswide Site Licenses, contact Michael Gould, ESRI's Higher Education Program Manager.
Support
New and existing Lab Kit and Lab Pack users can take advantage of technical support and software updates through the Maintenance Program[PDF]. This program makes it easier to budget for support and software updates by combining both services into a single annual fee.
Educational Edition (Student/Faculty) and Individual Licenses
Educational Edition (Student/Faculty) and Individual Licenses are available to students, instructors, faculty, staff, and other educators for academic or research use. These licenses are held by an individual person rather than the educational institution and do not include a maintenance option. There are two types of licenses:
Educational Edition Licenses which expire one year from the initial registration of the software. These licenses, which are available to students, faculty, and staff, qualify for either ArcEditor 9.3.1 and extensions or ArcView 9.3 and extensions.
Educational Individual Licenses which are permanent licenses that do not expire. These licenses qualify for ArcView 9.x, ArcView 9.x extensions, ArcPad 8, ArcView 3.x, or ArcView 3.x extensions.
Purchases are limited to one copy of any given software product/release per individual.
Teaching and Research Lab Kit Licenses
Teaching and Research Lab Kit Licenses are designed for teaching and research use and are available to bona fide educational institutions including primary and secondary schools, colleges and universities, libraries, museums, and nonprofit educational research institutes. These licenses can be purchased for multiple copies of ESRI software for use in a computer lab, classroom, or a single department. The initial license, the Teaching and Research Lab Kit Master License, includes installation media and documentation. You can purchase additional licenses of the same software and version that you can add to the master license.

A Teaching Lab Pack includes 30 licenses for use in one physical location (for example, a computer lab) plus one license for the instructor to use on their computer for curriculum development. You cannot split a Teaching Lab Pack across multiple labs or departments.

Campuswide Site Licenses
Campuswide Site Licenses are designed to maximize productivity and minimize cost in organizations where GIS is required by multiple departments across a college or university campus. Site Licenses provide a convenient alternative to establishing multiple Teaching and Research Lab Kits in individual departments. A Campuswide Site License can cover a single campus, multiple campuses, a district, or statewide systems.
A Campuswide Site License allows an institution to use ESRI software throughout the organization for teaching, research, or administrative* purposes for a single annual fee. This fee includes software maintenance, access to virtual campus courses authored by ESRI, user conference passes and technical support services. All Campuswide Site Licenses require a signed contract that specifies the specific campus or campuses covered. For more details and pricing for your campus or system, contact Michael Gould, ESRI Higher Education Manager.
* Some third-party software may not be used for administrative purposes due to royalty issues

The list in Table A-1 and Table A-2 above is subject to change should ESRI commitments to third parties regarding licensed third-party technology included in ESRI products prohibit or not provide redistribution rights in site licenses to ESRI licensees.
The following is also included in the Annual Fee for the Site License:
Ten (10) hardware keys to implement concurrent use Software.
An unlimited Virtual Campus standard training subscription (every year), on the condition that the Annual Fee has been paid and the contract is current. An ESRI Virtual Campus standard training subscription gives access to all asynchronous, auto-attended Virtual Campus courses authored by ESRI. These are primarily technology courses that teach ESRI Software.
To participate in the Virtual Campus training subscription, the Virtual Campus subscription administrator will need to fill out the Virtual Campus Training Subscription Activation form located at http://campus.esri.com/subscription/activation.
Once this online form is received, the account will be verified. Upon verification, a "master code" will be sent to the Virtual Campus subscription administrator. That code will act as a password to Licensee's subscription page where the administrator can generate individual course access codes for Licensee's students. The Virtual Campus subscription administrator may appoint up to ten (10) teaching staff or staff members to aid in issuing codes and agrees to notify ESRI in writing whenever such appointments are made. Note: This program is for educational institutions only.
