Volume 22: GISThe Geographic Approach
Hopi Ancestral Lands GIS Solutions for Travel, 3D Visualization, and Change through Time
The University of Redlands and the Hopi Tribe have collaborated to identify ancestral sites and to reconstruct clan migration patterns. Professor Wesley Bernardini, Ph.D., defined the primary goals for the project: to develop a GIS database for storage and analysis of spatial data on ancestral Hopi villages.
Volume 21: GISCommunicating Our World
Geospatial Data and Environmental Science and Management
Naval Undersea Warfare Center and the University of Rhode Island Environmental Data Center in the Department of Natural Resources Science have worked together to develop GIS-based solutions to complex problems faced by the U.S. Navy in environmental and ecological management. The partnership has proven to be extremely valuable for both institutions.
Volume 20: GISHelping Manage Our World
Circumpolar Arctic Vegetation
The Circumpolar Arctic Vegetation Map shows the types of vegetation that occur across the Arctic between the ice-covered Arctic Ocean to the north and the northern limit of forests to the south.
Volume 19: GISThe Language of Geography
Quantification of Reservoir Potential of the Devonian Limestone East Waddell Ranch Survey, Texas
A series of five maps was produced as part of work done for a GIS course given at the University of Houston, Geoscience Department. Data from two sediment layers was used to quantify reservoir potential. Map 1 used geostatistics to estimate the depth of the oil producing (lower) layer from point samples.
Volume 18: Geography and GISServing our World
Where Have All the Children Gone?
The Households With Children map shows steep declines in the proportion of households with school-age children in the inner core of the district, but some gains occurred where new housing was built or minority populations grew.
Volume 17: Geography and GISSustaining our World
Portland State University
See how maps and graphs are used to illustrate and model enrollment forecasting and spatial trending using ArcView Spatial Analyst and other tools.
Volume 16: GeographyCreating Communities
Stanford University Central Campus
Facilities Operations uses GIS technology to map the campus infrastructure, including campus buildings, utilities, and landscape features, to support facilities maintenance activities at the university.
The Map Book Gallery features the ESRI Map Book series dedicated to acknowledging the important and innovative accomplishments of GIS users around the world.
Published annually, each volume of the ESRI Map Book showcases a small portion of the work presented at the Map Gallery Exhibition at the annual ESRI International User Conference.
