Analyzing Change

The following two images show how the Missouri River has changed near Desoto National Wildlife Refuge north of Omaha, Nebraska, since Lewis and Clarks' time. Both images were provided by GCS Research LLC.

The first image was created by blending Landsat 5 satellite imagery, a black and white historical aerial photo, and the Lewis and Clark trail line.

Desoto National Wildlife Refuge The second image is the most recent of the same area, taken from the International Space Station. Imagery provided by Earth Sciences and Image Analysis—Johnson Space Center, 2003.
