Listen to this informative podcast, available in ESRI’s speaker series, for an interview with the authors of the ESRI Press book The Business Benefits of GIS: An ROI Approach. The podcast details how users can implement a return on investment (ROI) methodology in their own organizations to create business value.

DeLorme Extends GPS Capabilities to ESRI Users
ESRI users can view ArcGIS Desktop projects on the DeLorme Earthmate PN40 GPS receiver by importing waypoints and tracks with associated comments as shapefiles. Users can also transfer views of their projects for use in the field, display MrSID and GeoTIFF imagery files, and navigate rural terrain across DeLorme trail and road data. Learn more .

Remote Sensing

Indian Space Research Organisation to Use ESRI ArcGIS Server
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has reached an agreement with NIIT GIS Limited, ESRI’s distributor in India, to equip its five Regional Remote Sensing Service Centres (RRSSCs) with ArcGIS Server and the Server Image extension to provide applications to many government agencies throughout India. Spatial Data Infrastructure

The June issue of Geoconnexion magazine is dedicated to spatial data infrastructure and includes a story on how even small islands can benefit from implementing ESRI technology for SDI to map data, share resources, and improve technical infrastructure. SDI for Small Islands [PDF]

Cartography

Check out ESRI’s Map Templates Resource Center , where you can download and apply templates for creating your own great-looking Web, printed, and mobile maps. The resource center also has information about GIS-based mapping techniques and provides access to symbols, tools, and resource presentations.

PLTS for ArcGIS - Aeronautical Solution Supports eTOD Implementation
Production Line Tool Set (PLTS) for ArcGIS - Aeronautical Solution enables aviation organizations to populate Electronic Terrain and Obstacle Databases (eTOD). This enhancement will make it easier for International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)-participating states to capture and manage obstacle and terrain data necessary for maps and charts, as required by ICAO. Nautical

NOAA Accepts ESRI-Based System to Modernize Nautical Chart Production
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA) has formally accepted a new ESRI-based system to improve how the organization produces its national suite of nautical charts. The organization expects the system to decrease production time for charts significantly by allowing timely and frequent updates. Read the press release . Remote Sensing and GIS 2009

Held on Sunday, July 12, in San Diego, this is the place to be for all ESRI users who are interested in best practices on how to get the most out of remotely sensed data and GIS. This is the second year of this popular event and showcases keynote speaker Kass Green, past president of the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing; Aurelie C. Shapiro from the World Wildlife Fund (U.S.); and Marten Hogeweg, senior project manager and product manager at ESRI.
