PLTS
for ArcGIS Assists with Defense Facilities Management [PDF]
Esri's Production Line Tool Set (PLTS) for ArcGIS is a collection of turnkey
software applications for high-volume database production, maintenance,
quality control and cartographic product generation, and workflow management.
Esri power users, such as the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), rely on PLTS
to help manage vast facilities. The PLTS team at Esri has put together this
document to help you understand how the work the DoD has done can assist
other military and civilian users manage their interior space.

the Building Interior Space Data Model Group
The Building Interior Space Data Model (BISDM) Group is an independent
committee with members from both the private and public sectors who share
information, ideas, and experiences about enhancing facilities management
with GIS. As a member, you'll be involved in the collaboration on the BISDMa
model you can use for representing and modeling facility interiors using
ArcGIS.
The
BISDM Group, together with Esri, built the Building
Interior Space Data Model, which includes a logical and physical UML
diagram that you can directly import into ArcGIS.

Facilities
Management Track Presentations at the 2009 FedUC
Esri's 2009 Federal User Conference (FedUC) was a great success and included
many informative presentations from Esri users. For the second year, Esri
hosted a facilities management (FM) track that focused on how users in the
federal and defense industries are applying GIS to FM. See the user
presentations listed under GIS Applications for Installation and Facilities
Management, Facilities Management in Federal Government I, and Facilities
Management in Federal Government II.

FM
for GIS Power Users [PDF]
The Smithsonian Institution created a new Web interface for Esri power users
at its Panamanian facilities, allowing them to incorporate 2D and 3D capabilities.
This paper, given at the 2009 Esri FedUC, outlines how the organization uses
GIS for building information management.
