ArcGIS 10.1 Curriculum Changes: New Instructor-Led Foundational Courses
|
For the upcoming ArcGIS 10.1 release, we have redesigned our instructor-led ArcGIS foundational courses. The new courses are designed to help you master the critical skills needed to visualize, analyze, and manage geographic data across the ArcGIS system. The courses feature group activities and hands-on exercises in which students get experience with desktop, server, online, and mobile ArcGIS platforms. The new courses are described briefly below.
ArcGIS I: Introduction to GIS
This course is a good choice for those with no GIS experience who would like to understand more about how GIS fits into their organizations, those who have non-GIS jobs but need to complete tasks using GIS maps or tools, or those interested in pursuing a job that requires basic GIS skills.
ArcGIS II: Essential Workflows
This course is for those who understand basic GIS concepts but have minimal ArcGIS experience. The course covers ArcGIS components for desktop and online GIS workflows and teaches how to efficiently visualize, create, and analyze geographic data to solve problems and get information.
ArcGIS III: Performing Analysis
In this course, students extend their GIS analysis skills beyond the basics and learn best practices to execute, automate, and share analysis workflows. The course teaches how to prepare data for analysis, choose appropriate analysis tools and methods, automate analysis tasks with models, and share results in a variety of ways.

Getting Ready to Take an Esri Technical Certification Exam?

Here are some tips for exam day:
- Bring two forms of identification - at least one must be government issued and include a picture ID.
- Personal items, such as mobile phones, laptops, pagers, watches, car keys, and notes, are not allowed in the testing area. Testing centers have lockers available to store your valuables while you're taking the exam.
Still trying to figure out which certification is right for you? Review the Candidate Qualifications, Skills Measured, and Training Resources sections for each exam on the Esri Technical Certification website to see which certification your skills and experience align to best.

Quotes from the Classroom: Meet Jamie Outlaw
 |
"I learned more about the functionality of the JavaScript API, and it has changed my opinion on that language."
Jamie Outlaw, senior operations research adviser at FedEx Express in Tennessee, shared these comments with us after attending the Using HTML5 with ArcGIS live training seminar last month.
He is hoping the information he learned will help him speed up the development on a project he is currently working on and help with completing some future work as well.
