The Massachusetts Office of Geographic and Environmental Information (MassGIS) Online Data Viewer, also called OLIVER, is an application designed to enable users to view maps of Massachusetts, navigate around the state, identify data, and download the actual data. The full MassGIS data catalog is available in folders. There are three types of extracts allowed—by rectangle, user-drawn shape, or a feature shape in an existing layer. Downloaded data is supplied as a compressed Zip file along with ArcView legend files and ArcGIS 8 layer files for symbolization. Metadata is also provided. OLIVER is an Internet-based application in which all map drawing and data extraction happen on a MassGIS server, while the results show up locally in the client application. A one-time Java Web Start install is required before using this program. OLIVER uses ArcIMS and OpenGIS Web services. |
