The Adirondack Park Agency (APA) operates two visitor interpretive centers in the six million acre Adirondack Park. Thousands of visitors each year come to the centers to learn about the park's unique natural and cultural resources. This map was produced to help visitors find local communities, state lands, waterways, mountains, and recreational opportunities. It is also used as a fund-raiser to support interpretive programs at the centers.

Using ArcInfo Workstation, the base layers were enhanced by a shaded relief layer from 10-meter digital elevation models. The Encapsulated Postscript file was imported into Adobe Illustrator for final layout of the title block, legend, and gazetteer. From the Illustrator file, 5,000 maps measuring 31 by 45 inches were printed.

Additional information about the APA GIS, the visitor interpretive centers, and Adirondack Park is available at their Web site.
