The park is a distinctive landscape and a valuable biological resource. Often political boundaries cannot provide full protection against external activities, which can negatively affect the area. This map identifies the major threats to Joshua Tree National Park, which include a proposed landfill along the park border, invasive introduced wildlife and vegetation species, urbanization of the communities surrounding the park, and high impact recreation within the park.
