Delaware County was named the 10th fastest growing county in the United States according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Orange Township, Berlin Township, and Liberty Township are the fastest growing townships in the county with growth outstripping all projections. As agriculture gives way to suburban growth, these townships are attempting to negotiate well-designed neighborhoods and commercial developments to retain some of their original rural character.
The Township Comprehensive Land Use Plans incorporate the goals, objectives, and planning principles in the plan's recommendations, which are intended to be the township's vision for the next five to 10 years. The plan is based on economic and environmental conditions, availability of utilities, adequacy of roads, and the values of the township regarding density of housing and the look of the community when completely developed. The GIS application helps all of the analysis and site-specific land use recommendations for each parcel become more accurate and easier to visualize. This map is a final product of how the Delaware County Regional Planning Commission (DCRPC) uses its GIS to assist in the Township Comprehensive Land Use Plans process.
