Perm is an administrative and industrial center of approximately 800 square kilometers in the northeast European part of Russia, located in the foothills of the Ural Mountains on the Kama River. It was founded in 1723 and currently has a population of approximately one million. There are more than 400 historical and cultural places including 30 archaeological sites. GIS is used for the development of town planning projects such as the master plan, cultural heritage preservation, and zoning. A multipurpose database of Perm town planning and historical and cultural objects was created for various projects. A multifunctional analysis of the city landscape was undertaken with the use of GIS and remote sensing imagery. Separate thematic GIS layers, such as historical zoning, the stages of Perm town planning development, and culturally significant sites, are shown on the maps. The city also uses GIS software for territorial development management. |
