Storm Wall MapThe Storm Wall Map 240-348-S8 shows the PPL transmission (purple), substations (green), and distribution (blue) facilities on the PPL land base (gray/blue water) at 1:800 scale. Primary sectionalizing device symbols are colored red, and normally open tie device symbols are colored red and circled in red. Storm Wall maps are used by PPL for tracking storm outages and repair crews working in PPL’s 12 operating area offices as it manages the restoration efforts following a weather event. All storm maps for an area are mounted on a wall in an emergency room and covered with Plexiglas so both outages and repair crew locations can be plotted until the restoration effort is completed. Primary Operating MapThe PPL Primary Operating Map (POM) 252-348-S4 shows the PPL 12 kilovolt distribution system. PPL POMs are used by PPL for daily operation of the overhead distribution system. These maps are updated as new facilities are added using Miner & Miner’s JP/DE engineering application, or corrections are edited using the MMEdit application. Copies of all POMs for each of PPL’s 12 operating areas are carried in map containers in all the construction/repair trucks in each area. The maps on the vehicles are replaced on a predetermined cycle. These maps are used in the field primarily for finding the location of PPL facilities and by repair crews and damage assessment personnel during outage events. |
