Toronto, Canada, lies on the shore of Lake Ontario, the easternmost of the Great Lakes. Home to more than two million people, the city is the key to one of North America’s most vibrant regions, the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Four and one-half million Canadians live in the GTA, the cultural, entertainment, and financial capital of the nation. Toronto is the fifth largest municipal government in North America and is also the seat of the Ontario government. There are more than 466,700 assessed properties and 391,500 buildings within Toronto.

The City of Toronto Building Construction Dates map is a snapshot of growth trends in the city using year built information from assessment data. Building construction dates are derived from the Toronto Assessment Database and were extracted and linked to the city’s cadastral fabric database through the assessment roll number. The city’s parcel fabric was then dissolved on the year built and classified into a number of categories to highlight trends in the development and expansion of the city of Toronto.
