Getting around London can be a challenge. Each day approximately two million customers use the underground service alone. In addition, there are hundreds of thousands who ride buses, trains, and other transport services covering the London area. Many of these people know exactly where they are going, but there are many who do not. Aiming to make the door-to-door journey for all underground passengers as easy as possible, Transport for London has created a Local Information Display for all 275 London underground stations consisting of a local area map and a bus service “Spider Map” informing customers of nearby places reachable from the station at street level. The local area map contains detailed place of interest information collected in large part from underground station staff who respond to hundreds of questions daily regarding nearby places and attractions. The result is a large poster display located conveniently near the station exits. In addition, to save customers from scrambling about trying to find pen and paper, A4 format leaflets have been printed containing a condensed version of the information on the poster for free distribution. |
