Work to produce this map involved dynamic segmentation of the railroad network in various versions, positioning of 26 data frames and 19 photos in one single layout, and color and symbol selection for 12 chosen themes in one main map. The selection of representative themes was grouped from a period of 150 years to show how the railroads connect people, natural resources, and markets despite a large span in geography and history.
