To make this map, soil data was rated or evaluated from the surface horizon through the soil profile a depth of the first restrictive soil layer, such as bedrock, a dense layer, or a depth of 150 cm, to determine the root zone. The Soil Ratings for Plant Growth (SRPG) (nonirrigated) provides an index value that arrays soils logically in the landscape according to their inherent properties important to support plant growth such as soil climate, depth of root zone, and fertility.
