This poster demonstrates a relatively simple technique using basic, readily available datasets to create a three-dimensional flyby with the ArcGlobe application in ArcGIS 3D Analyst. The display shows two screen shots of virtual flybys over Hurricane Jeanne as the storm moved toward the Florida coast in late September 2004. Text accompanying the display describes how the ArcGlobe user can download Web-based imagery, use the georeferencing utility to project the image to base data, and apply the products to construct scenes and animated models of the event.

The application was used during support operations for the 2004 Florida hurricane response and recovery efforts. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) directed the emergency response operations that involved the cooperative efforts of many organizations and state and federal agencies including GIS expertise from the land management agencies within the Department of the Interior. The application is useful for showing project managers the extent and impact of a major event, such as a storm, from a variety of spatial viewpoints.
