The Violence Impact Project was created to address the increase in homicides and violent crime in Phoenix, Arizona. Based on data and analysis, two specific target regions (Central City and Black Canyon) were identified, and resources from a variety of agencies were focused in a collaborative effort to reduce crime. The Central City maps examine the area before and after targeted enforcement. The Black Canyon maps expand on the analysis to include the displacement of crime to surrounding areas. Overall, the information shows that directed enforcement impacts violent crime in designated locations, while dispersion continues to be an important consideration.
