City of Oxnard and County of Ventura

These four maps show much about community development and renewal in the city of Oxnard. The Public Works Projects map shows new developments along with the status of vital capital improvement project activity. The Neighborhoods map illustrates how communities are organized. The Downtown Guide portrays in three dimensions the core of a city, and the Zoning map shows how this California coastal city is geographically situated and organized. These and other mapping capabilities are products of the city’s enterprise GIS, which serves numerous city departments including public works, public safety, and development services.

City of Oxnard Public Works Projects

The Public Works Projects map helps project planners save time and money at the city of Oxnard. It shows new developments and stages of progress for capital improvement projects for the entire city, enabling project planners to see the “big picture” of construction activity. By being able to see a range of construction work over time and place, this map helps project planners sequence and combine construction work for more efficient street paving. With coordinated planning across departments and divisions, the city minimizes traffic disruptions due to construction and reduces costs.

City of Oxnard Neighborhoods

The Neighborhoods map serves as a guide to the city of Oxnard’s communities and neighborhoods. Some of Oxnard’s neighborhoods date back 100 years to when the city was founded and laid out into two small neighborhoods. Oxnard has grown and has more than 50 officially recognized neighborhoods, each with a distinct identity. Because this map delineates the current neighborhoods as well as their community groupings within the city, it serves as an important tool in Oxnard’s award-winning Satellite City Hall program.

City of Oxnard Downtown Guide

To meet the needs of visitors and city staff, a downtown guide was created to provide a quick resource of downtown public services. Visitors can view the numerous services available within walking distance of Oxnard’s newly restored downtown. The Downtown Guide was created by combining parcel, street centerline, and building footprint shapefiles. The highlighted buildings were extruded to approximate their relative heights, and a perspective view was made.

City of Oxnard Zoning Map

The city’s Zoning map is at the center of day-to-day planning, development review, and permitting. Every public and private parcel is mapped with a zone that implements the city’s General Plan. Nearly every planning and/or development question from the public starts with, “What is the zoning?” Besides the basic city street map, there is probably no other map of the city that the public is more familiar with. It is used to conduct business in city hall or viewed on the city’s Internet map server. The information in this map comes from enterprise GIS layers that are updated on a daily basis.
