Voter Participation in the June 14, 2005, Primary Elections

The GIS branch of the Department of Information Technology works with agencies to produce demonstration projects. These projects are to show users, both internal and external, how GIS can help staff and citizens visualize and better understand their community.

For this project, the voter participation results of the June 14, 2005, Democratic and Republican primaries were mapped. This information is currently distributed in tabular format through Fairfax County’s voting results Web site. Also available at the Web site are a countywide map and a map for each supervisory district.

Mapping of the tabular information provides citizens and staff with a way to see where voter participation is high and where party participation rates may differ, and mapping provides a greater understanding of the political geography of Fairfax County.
