With the introduction of the new Act on Planning and Use of National Territory, the land suitability assessment (LSAS) became an important and essential tool for urban planning in Korea. The act stipulates procedures and assessment standards for the implementation of LSAS. It is an assessment method for land classification based on information from various databases including spatial data and attribute data of parcels. LSAS is meant to mediate various controversies over land such as conflict between private and public ownership and between development and conservation. LSAS will assess the land’s physical, location, economic, and environmental characteristics and classify them based on usability. |
