The New Mexico Milepost/Point map is a replacement map for one that had not been updated since 1995. The original CADD map lacked sufficient detail to convey the complexity of the system. The map was labeled Milepost/Point because the nature of the work was to show the mileposts and the mile points. The discussion was quite intense, as there is a difference between the calibrated points and the physical posts on the ground. Nonetheless, an attempt was made to produce a map showing general route directions and posting. Several iterations of the map have been requested including drainage features and the Public Land Survey System. The Milepost/Point map provides critical information on the two integral linear referencing systems used by the New Mexico Department of Transportation for locating assets or events along the state road system such as logged mile point and physical milepost or mile marker. With approximately 300 to 400 printed copies distributed annually, both internally and externally, this map is the most widely distributed after the state road map. |
