Scientists from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Smithsonian Institution, and U.S. Naval Research Laboratory published this new world map of volcanoes, earthquakes, impact craters, and plate tectonics. Its first two editions (1989, 1994) make it the best-selling map in the history of USGS. The 1 x 1.5-meter map shows earth’s most prominent features when viewed from a distance and more detail upon closer inspection. The back of the map zooms in to show greater detail, with panels highlighting examples of earth’s fundamental processes—plus time lines, references, and other resources to enhance the user’s understanding. All map elements, plus interactive capability, are available at www.minerals.si.edu/tdpmap. Courtesy of the USGS, Smithsonian Institution, and U.S. Naval Research Laboratory. |
