In 2005, the City of Fort Collins was asked to grant a tavern liquor license to a new martini bar. The applicant proposed to occupy a 10,000-square-foot building in the historic downtown area. The downtown merchants and the police department opposed this proposal, contending there already were enough bars in the downtown area. The liquor license was denied, which prompted the proposed bar developer to take the matter to court. The municipal GIS department created these maps to help support the liquor license denial. With these maps as aids, the court upheld the downtown merchants’ and police department’s recommendation. Courtesy of Marcus Bodig, City of Fort Collins, Colorado. |
