To many potential explorers, the North Slope of Alaska is an intimidating wasteland, far from infrastructure and support, and acquiring data about this region can be frustrating. By compiling and providing general data, regional geology, political boundaries, and state programs, the Division of Oil and Gas is extending valuable research tools. This map series consists of four 80 x 36-inch maps to be used as posters for quick visual reference and to inspire discussion about North Slope resources. Included are some well-known areas such as the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska, the Brooks Range, Beaufort Sea, Chukchi Sea, and Prudhoe Bay.

Map Plate 1 focuses on oil and gas sale areas, leased land, oil and gas units, landownership, borough boundaries, and federal boundaries. Regional geology is the focus of Map Plate 2. It shows surficial rock classification, large-scale structure, energy resource accumulations, and basin information. Geologic cross sections across main areas of interest and a geologic discussion enhance the map. Map Plate 3 displays publicly available and brokered seismic data locations. Three regional lines were selected and shown on the poster to illustrate the data quality of certain surveys and trends that are visible in the seismic data. Map Plate 4 shows four main data frames: publicly available gravity data, publicly available magnetic data, a regional gravitational anomaly, and a regional magnetic anomaly.
