Homeownership offers important benefits that enable a household to build wealth through equity appreciation, and it is generally considered a secure form of housing. South Australia has seen significant increases in house sale prices over the past decade, leaving homeownership out of reach for many low-income households. This is particularly evident within the metropolitan Adelaide area where affordable homeownership opportunities have dramatically diminished and moved toward urban fringe areas, which typically are not well serviced and offer poor housing quality. GIS has provided the tools to visualize the affordable-dwelling sale trends and the impacts that the South Australian Housing Trust redevelopments are having on low-income households and their communities.
